Cork is an entirely natural material. It is manufactured from the bark of cork oak, which mainly grows in the Mediterranean. When removing the bark, the tree is not cut down, only carefully peeled, thus avoiding damage and enabling the continued growth of the tree and its replacement of the lost bark. The tree is ready for the first peeling when it is 25 years old, and then approximately every 9 years. The cork oak has a life expectancy of approximately 200 years, which means around 20 peelings. Cork flooring has a unique cell structure (approximately 40 million cells per cm3). The cells are filled with a gas that resembles air. Due to this structure, cork is warm and pleasant to walk on, antistatic, antibacterial and resistant to insects, all of which makes it suitable for every home or office.
